A smile, a captivating smile,
Breaking the tide of the morning spell,
Winsome as the fluttering of a thousand butterflies,
A warmth so profound, that it stokes the fire of love,
A child, a child, a beaming little child.
A bud so encompassed in its own warmth,
Breaking free with a little step,
Leaving the warmth and comfort of home and hearth,
Stepping forward into a world of learning,
A child, a child, a confused little child.
A small whimpering smile, a fleeting touch,
A new friend, a new companion,
Mingling slowly, a little cry, a little groan,
Winning hearts and breaking free,
A child, a child, a bewildered child.
Gaining confidence day by day,
Making friends and learning fast,
The rules of the school and its master,
Somethings, always not to one’s liking,
A child, a child, a steadfast child.
Wandering through the labyrinth of knowledge,
Seeking, searching, acquiring from page to page,
Learning from each word, a sound, a whisper,
Gaining from the wisdom of the past and the present,
A child, a child, a studious child.
Winning smiles all the way, breaking bread along to sway,
Achieving goals, setting targets and making plans,
Seeking comfort, wealth, fame and fortune,
All in a blink of an eye, all grown up and ready to face the world,
A child, a child, no longer a child.
